When the Germans came close to the battery, I. Petrenko raised the gunners in a counterattack. In a fierce hand -to -hand combat, a significant part of the Germans was killed, five captured, the rest retreated. Three hours later, the platoon I. Petrenko repulsed another attack. Thanks to the courage and resistance of the gunners, the command was able to hold the border and later restore the lost position.

When the Germans approached a distance of 30 meters from the battery, Comrade Petrenko lifted the battery personnel and was the first to rush into a counterattack on the Germans, inspiring all the battery fighters with his courageous act, as a result of which more than 80 were destroyed and 5 soldiers were captured, the remnants of the Nazis were scattered.
Three hours later, the pr-k resumed the attack again. Lieutenant Petrenko, when the Germans came close to a close distance, raised the personnel again, setting the fighters the task-to die, but to destroy the pr-ka.
